An ID card, is quite simply a card that can verify your identity - and the fact that you work for, or attend, a specific organization. Usually, it will include a recent photograph of the owner alongside any pertinent information - such as an expiry date, company name and the name of the department in which you work or study. However, modern technological advances mean that ID cards can be used for far more than simple identification alone.

Here are just some of the uses of an ID Card.

Building access

Previously, employees were instructed to wear their ID cards, ensuring that they were fully visible at all times. This allowed security personnel to keep track of who was allowed access into certain buildings or areas. Whilst this is still the case, developments in technology now mean that ID cards can be programmed to allow the bearer access into buildings or rooms without the presence of security personnel. This is simply more efficient, as the employee is able to go about their business freely, especially if they are working or entering the business outside of normal business hours. It also helps improve security, as anyone without proper identification & clearance levels cannot gain access to the building.

Cashless purchasing

If you attach a company ID card to an easy-to-use website, employees can add 'money' to their account and use their ID card as a cashless purchasing system at company cafés, diners or even vending machines. Not only does this speed things up, but, in light of COVID-19, it is important that we make small changes in our everyday lives to help minimize the spread of the virus - cashless payment is a great way to do this. Doing so helps take care of other members of staff, their loved ones and any customers who might be in the proximity. Furthermore, employers can add incentives such as company discounts, vouchers or reward systems (all accessible when using an ID card) that will encourage employees to buy food and drink on the premises.

Document copying/printing

As opposed to having a separate card for printing or copying documents, you can attach your ID card to your company's printing system. This makes trips to the printer/copier quicker and more efficient. Furthermore, in order to print, the holder will have to present their card when they are next to the printer. This means that documents will not be unattended, and confidential information is better preserved. This is particularly beneficial for industries that process lots of confidential documents and files.

Increased network security

It is also important to note that using ID cards can help increase company security - and not just in relation to access control. You can use ID cards to log into windows and other cloud-based systems, which can help you better control who gains access to company information. Furthermore, using an ID card is much more secure than a password and is less vulnerable to hackers or malfunctions.

In conclusion, ID cards are much more useful than you may initially believe and are vital in improving company efficiency throughout all areas of the business. Furthermore, individual ID cards to be used as opposed to fingerprint scanners, manually opening doors, interacting with security staff and making payments with cash - are an extremely viable and safe option during these unprecedented times.
