Twin/Hybrid Cards... What Are They?
This term is attributed to two completely separate chip technologies residing within one card. However, data between the chips is not actually shared; the chips act completely independently of each other. If you want to share data, see Dual Interface/Combi Cards to learn about card options which will give you data sharing capabilities.
The most common twin/hybrid cards tend to be contactless smart cards with a separate contact chip embedded. In the production stage, a finished contactless card is very simply embedded with another chip without interfering with the antenna.
These cards are typically used in applications needing separate contact and contactless chip functions, within one card. Twin/hybrid cards are particularly useful in situations where departments want to control the security of their own application and are not interested in sharing that data.
