Dual Interface (Combi) Cards... What Are They?
A dual interface/combi card is a microprocessor card which also has a contactless interface. Unlike a hybrid/twin card (which has two separate chips) the dual interface/combi card utilizes a single chip consisting of both interfaces. Within the transport market for instance, money can be loaded securely using the contact interface, and when customers need to use the card for travel access, the simpler contactless interface is used. These products are geared toward use within banking and transport markets as well as in other areas needing high security, more memory than is offered with a standard contactless card and dual interface capabilities.
